1899 (Apr 1) envelope sent from a soldier in the West Africa Frontier Force to England, endorsed “on special service, no stamps procurable”, reverse with very fine strike of the Royal Niger Company “Burutu” framed hs (serif letters) in violet, with Liverpool and London arrivals, taxed with ms “2d” and “T” in crayon, with “2d” crossed out and “1d” hs applied instead in London, minor creasing, fine.
