Description
1851-60 1s bright red violet, full to wide margins all around, in very fine and fresh condition, used with 3d red with good margins on three sides and narrow at top, both tied to small embossed lady’s cover by mute grill cancels, 3d also tied by red Fredericton Feb. 27, 1853 cds, manuscript “1sh (1sh3d)”, send to England with red London receiver on front, only the reverse top flap has been added. A very spectacular and fresh franking. An excellent example of 15 Pence per 1/2 ounce letter rate to England via British Packet from Halifax. Only six covers have been recorded paying this rate and only three are known with this franking, this cover being by far the finest known and the only recorded 1 shilling of New Brunswick on lady’s envelope; mentioned in Argenti (p.47), cert. RPS (2016) and Sergio Sismondo (2014), ex J.F.Seybold of Syracuse (his collection sold in 1910), Burrus and Fox.
