Description
1882 1s purple DB pl.13 comb perf. 14 overprinted “SPECIMEN” type 9, mint o.g., a superb example of this unissued stamp. This proposed issue was to be surcharged and form part of the unified 1883 issue, however after printing over 23’500 sheets from plates 13 and 14 the issue was abandoned and all the stock was destroyed. To date no examples appear to have survived and the specimens are the sole survivors of this issue, of which only 11 have been recorded by Wiseman. (S.G. Spec. K8Cs). Catalogue ref: S.G. 163 var
