Lot 60002 – Real photographic postcard of the “La Uruguay” anchored at Buenos Aires harbour signed on picture side by six members
Real photographic postcard of the “La Uruguay” anchored at Buenos Aires harbour signed on picture side by six members of the Second Expedition to Antarctica to resupply Orcadas del Sud Meteorological Station and searching for Charcot Expedition after arriving from the South. Signed by six officers on Dec. 10/19/1904: Frigate Captain Ismael Galindez (Commander), Lieutenant Teodoro Caillet Bois, Jose Yalour, Jose Mameroff, Gregorio Pereyra, Horacio Igurret,. Jose Gorrochategui (signature with a different ink, probably after 1904 expedition). Personally handed to famous Antarctic postcard collector Luis Cañas.
Note: After the 1st Expedition to Antarctic no extra postcards of the “Uruguay” were printed and remaining examples, not endorsed or signed, were scarce. The second Antarctic Expedition signed postcards are extremely rare. A previous one was auctioned in the last ten years by Grosvenor (UK) (20/11/2014) and sold for £2’400. This is the second pc being offered since then.
