1878-791d Red Plate 191 (CB-DB) remarkable vertical pair printed in fugitive rose-red on Crown watermarked paper (the same paper as employed for the issued stamps) and showing a contemporary trial cancellation a superb pair of considerable rarity, adjoining the single example illustrated in the Queen Victoria Specialised Catalogue (lettered CA). Examples in this format are of the utmost scarcity with comparable vertical pairs recorded only in institutional holdings including the Postal Museum and the Royal Collection. Cert B.P. A (2011). This important proof was submitted by Perkins Bacon to the Inland Revenue authorities in 1878.
