1770 Falmouth-Charleston Packet CHARLES/TOWN. Brownish-black two-line handstamp on backflap of large part of folded letter to Langston and Dixon in London senders ship-name directive P Sandwich Paquet Capt. Nottingham W.G.P. (Whom God Protects) carried on the Earl of Sandwich (Richard Nottingham captain) which departed Charleston on July 21 1770 and arrived in Falmouth on September 8, manuscript 2N rate including packet charge 12/SE London Bishops mark, worn file fold part of back panels intact one with docketing indicating Jul. 16 1770 origin date from the Smyths in Charleston Fine and exhibitable very rare Falmouth-Charleston packet cover the large two-line CHARLES/TOWN is one of the early Colonial handstamped markings. ex Arnell.
