Lot 30621 – 1856 letter from Modena with 15 stamps.
1856 large-sized folded letter from Reggio 8.1 1856 to Turin, franked at 3.60 lire rate, bearing Modena 1st issue 25c light brown (“camoscio chiaro”) in block of 8 (2×4) and a strip of 4, two singles 10c rose, and a 40c dark blue; all stamps without stop after value and struck by multiple bar handstamp. A vertical filing fold affects two stamps in the block of 8 and a horizontal fold runs through the two 10c, and other minor imperfections that do not detract substantially from the great appeal of this showpiece with a truly spectacular three-colour franking for the 9th weight step letter to the Kingdom of Sardinia, featuring the largest used block of the 25c on a complete letter. An ornate blue sender’s marking “DOMO. FLLI. SIDOLI REGGIO” adds to the visual appeal of this exhibition item of the highest order. Certificate Colla Asinelli 2002, and other signatures (Diena family) and handstamps.
