Description
1849, 1Kr black pl.2 in strip of three on cover uniquely cancelled contrary to the regulations with only one strike of the “300” cog-wheel cancel placed in the middle of the two left stamps, leaving the third one free (every stamp should have received a single cancellation in the middle of the stamp), sent from the small village of Rüdenhausen, arriving the next day in Würzburg, where the stamps again were not cancelled. The strip itself has clear margins all around, with large part of the dividing lines and with sheet margin on the left. If not unique then certainly a fantastic showpiece of the first German stamp; cert. Stegmüller (2024) (Mi. catalogue value for normal cover €26’000). Catalogue ref: Mi. 1IIa
