Lot 35437 – 1967-1976, Great Bitter Lake Association. Small collection
1967-1976, Great Bitter Lake Association. Small collection of stamps and letters produced on ships caught in the Suez Canal in the aftermath of the Egypt-Israeli War in June 1967. Comprising 15 postal labels with cancels and 10 letters; also a card with purple marking “Ship’s Olympic Games Great Bitter Lake 1968” and a sheet with logo of Polish Ocean Lines featuring a range of “mailed onboard” cachets from many different vessels. The stranded ships were known as the Yellow Fleet after the yellow sand that came to coat them. Very creative, appealing, and rarely seen material of labels, letters and ephemera.
Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis, and the complete set of illustrations for all lots will be available by 1 June 2026.
