Double stampless entire letter from Montreal, 28 July 1856, struck with red MONTREAL PAID JY 28 1856 CANADA and oblique red PAID. Correctly rated 2s 7d sterling / 3s 2d Canadian currency for a double letter. Carried by Cunard “Niagara” from Boston, via Liverpool and London, arriving with red PAID and French PD in circle to Cognac.
Note: Reflects the correct double-letter rate to France via the Cunard line.
