1855 Stampless Registered Cover – Montreal to New York
Envelope from Montreal, 22 May 1855, bearing red MONTREAL / PAID / CANADA circular datestamp, with boxed REGISTERED PAID (two types), red PAID, and red “PAID 60” in circle handstamps, sent to New York, USA.
A remarkable early registered cover, showing the full array of markings used for prepaid correspondence under the Canadian registration system shortly after its introduction in 1855.
