1857 Crown Lands Department Stampless Envelope – Toronto to New York (Returned)
Envelope from the Crown Lands Department, Toronto, bearing red TORONTO C.W. PAID JAN 22 1857 single-circle datestamp and red straight-line “CANADA PAID 10 Cts”, sent to New York and subsequently returned to sender.
Note: This stampless usage demonstrates official departmental mail with full prepayment for cross-border postage. Illustrated in Montgomery.
