Cover bearing 6d slate-violet on laid paper, clear to large margins, tied by concentric circles from Montreal L.C., 18 Apr 1854, with red “PAID” handstamp and “10” in circle indicating U.S. postage paid, routed to Philadelphia.
A notable example of early cross-border correspondence, demonstrating the acceptance of Canadian postage for letters entering the U.S. postal system.
