1851 Stampless Entire – Markham to Oakland, Michigan
Stampless entire letter from Markham, 8 Oct 1851, bearing red TORONTO CANADA PAID, OC 11 1851, with rose curved PAID 10 to Oakland, Michigan. Also struck with red “CANADA. PAID 10 CTS.” in ribbon format, a locally produced handstamp used exclusively in 1851.
A rare example of early cross-border postal arrangements and experimental handstamping in Canada.
