1857 Stampless Parliamentary Free Frank – Legislative Assembly Datestamp

Envelope from Montreal sent by Parliamentary Member W. Cayley to Quebec, bearing a clear, crisp strike of the blue LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY CANADA / JUN 10 1857 open-circle datestamp, reverse with Montreal and Quebec datestamps. Very fine and scarce.

Note: Members of Parliament were permitted free franking privileges provided the letter was posted within 10 days of a Parliamentary session and addressed for delivery within Canada. Letters addressed outside Canada were not entitled to free transmission.
