1859 Stampless Official Cover – Isle Verte “FREE” Cancellation
Envelope from Isle Verte, via Quebec, addressed to the Commissaire Terres Couronne, Toronto, bearing handstamp “3” cancelled by an oblique “FREE” marking. The cover shows a red ISLE VERTE L.C., JA 22 1859 circular datestamp with manuscript date, reverse with Quebec and Toronto datestamps. Fine.
An unusual official free-mail usage, where the original “3” rating was annulled by the FREE handstamp.
