1852–57 6d slate grey on medium wove paper, large to huge margins showing portion of adjoining stamp at bottom, pen-cancelled with “PAID 6” as a second obliteration, on cover from POINTE-ALIX-TREMBLES, broken circle with ink date 7 October 1857, via Montreal (backstamp) to Boston.

Pays the 6d U.S. letter rate, valid from 1 July 1851. Four other covers from the same correspondence, dated between 31 October and 29 November 1857, exist with the stamp cancelled by an italic “PAID”.
