1851 3d Orange-Vermilion, Horizontal Pair on Cover to USA

Horizontal pair of 3d orange-vermilion on laid paper, Pane A, positions 46 & 47, the latter showing a Major Re-entry, outer frameline just touched at lower left corner otherwise fine to large margins, tied by concentric circles on cover from Montreal, 28 June 1852, with red curved framed CANADA handstamp to Boston.

Pays the 6d U.S. letter rate, valid from 1 July 1851, a remarkable usage of early Canadian stamps with notable plate variety.
