Description
1850s–1870s, Stampless Official Post Office correspondence group of 6 covers, a scarce and highly interesting group addressed to the Postmaster at Cape Town, originating from various offices including Villiersdorp, Cape Town, Port Beaufort, and Prince Albert. The group features a range of uncommon post offices and handstamps, offering valuable insight into internal postal administration. Included is a notable money letter (1855) sent from Prince Albert to the Acting Postmaster General at Cape Town, as well as an 1872 cover from Port Beaufort to Cape Town. These items represent official inter-departmental communications, transmitted free of charge and handstamped without adhesive postage, as per postal regulations governing official correspondence. A rare and cohesive group of clear postal-historical importance and seldom encountered in such a concentrated form. Condition generally fine to very fine. Auction
