Description
Postal Stationery: A specialized collection of Jammu & Kashmir postal stationery, 15 Items, comprising the only official stationery issued by the State—postcards of a single design, produced in shades of red and orange on a variety of papers. The group includes examples from Setting I (Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 5), as well as Settings II and IV, illustrating the evolution of printings and paper types.

Of particular interest are two rare inland postcards, one from Leh to Kyelang (Lahoul) and another from Jammu to Nowanshahr, bearing on the front a rare 3-ring “CAMP POST OFFICE” marking, associated with a travelling post office accompanying senior officials (such as the Commissioner or Settlement Officer) during annual tours through the provinces.

Notably, while Staal (ref. p. 233) records the “NOWAN SHAHR MONEY ORDERS” 3-ring postmark, the existence of Nowanshahr as a postal entity itself is seldom documented, making this usage particularly significant.

A fine and scarce group of 15 items, offering valuable insight into the postal stationery and itinerant postal operations of Jammu & Kashmir.

Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis, and the complete set of illustrations for all lots will be available by 1 June 2026.
