Lot 60355 – 1883-94 4 Annas Green Issues: Shades and Postal History
1883-94 4 Annas Green Issues: Shades and Postal History, an attractive and specialized accumulation of the 4 annas green issues, presented in a range of shades including olive green, dull yellow-green, bright green, deep green, and sage green.
The group includes an original sheet of the 4 annas green on buff-toned wove paper (State II), as well as a block of four on packet paper, cancelled by a 3-ring postmark at Hasora, an uncommon and desirable usage.
A notable postal history item is a letter from Srinagar to Amritsar, paying the third weight rate, franked with 4 annas dull green on creamy thin wove paper, in combination with ½ anna and 2 annas British-Indian adhesives on Queen Victoria postal stationery. The stamps are cancelled by the barred-L obliterator of the British Post Office at Srinagar, with reverse showing the boxed “R / KASHMIR” registration marking and circular Kashmir datestamp.
A fine and visually appealing group, combining shade studies, multiples, and a scarce registered usage. Condition very fine.(SG £600+).
