1867-1868 An outstanding and highly specialized assembly from the 1867–68 watercolour printings, produced in grey-black and shades of blue on native paper. In 1867, the Jammu authorities prepared a small composite plate of four subjects, comprising three units of 1½ anna and one unit of 1 anna (positioned in the upper left), each separated by a thin white dividing line. Printed in watercolour on locally produced paper, these issues reflect the need for supplementary printings derived from the earlier circular dies, resulting in a fascinating range of shades and characteristics. The collection comprises: 20+ stamps, including the rare 1 anna orange-red on native paper, as well as a used example of the same value. 18 covers, including several foreign destinations, many accompanied by certificates. Notable provenance including ex Masson and ex Garrett-Adams. Of particular importance is a remarkable cover dated 1876, bearing ½ anna bright emerald green (watercolour on native paper), tied by the Jammu black square seal on ½ anna British-Indian postal stationery. The cover is cancelled with the Sealkote duplex L-3 barred obliterator (April 27), with transit markings of Jhelum (April 28) and Bhera (April 29), and arrival at Loonmeanee (April 30). This important item is certified by the RPSL. A rare and comprehensive assembly, offering significant depth, important covers, and strong provenance—ideal for exhibition and advanced study (SG £15,000+).
