1937/38 book entitled “Statistical Department of the Inspectorate General of customs, issued by Order of the Inspector General of Customs, Frederick Maze; Documents illustrative of the Origin, Development, and activities of the Chinese Customs Service“, in six volumes including documents and circulars from the years 1861 to 1937, the early ones being signed by Robert Hart, the inspector general. Each volume bound in half leather, title printed in gold on the spine, the spines partially broken in vols. 1 & 2 or sometimes worn, but the contents is very fine and fresh. We could not trace another example of these famous book offered at auction. An exceedingly rare first hand source of information about Chinese history and also about the early Postal History of China.
