Description

TURNU SEVERIN: 1849 (11.8) Folded cover from Serbia, addressed to the Serbian embassy in Bucharest, bearing on reverse decorative circular Cyrillic, negative disinfection seal in black reading “Turnu Severin Quarantine” and depicting eagle over date of 1838, with date and signature of the Director of the station, John Strimbeanu, plus a perfectly preserved red wax seal of the KLADOVO Customs/Quarantine station, in Serbia (Dragomir type K38 – 8R; see # 3 on page 38), clear fine and an extremely rare strike, a very rare combination of the Turnu Severin negative black seal and the Kladovo (Serbia) red wax quarantine seal
