1894 (Dec 13) Printed envelope from the ROPiT Agency in Jaffa, sent to Yellan in the Saratov District in Russia registered and double rate, franked on the reverse with vert. strip of three 1890 10k tied by “R.O.P.i.T / 13 DEC 94 / AGENCY JAFFA” oval ds in blue (latest recorded date), several transit ds of Constantinople, Odessa and Yellan arrival, with ms “Addressee not found, holding period expired, so return”, with further ROPiT Agency Jaffa oval ds on return, opened for display (split in two and re-attached), according to Steichele this is the earliest item of registered mail of the Russian post in the Holy Land, a very attractive showpiece
