Gupta Empire, Kumaragupta I, c. 415-455, AV dinar, 7.09 g. (19 mm). Obverse: ‘archer’ type, slender and elegant king with layered curls, wearing tunic over loin cloth, beside him is lathe-turned standard with Garuda, standing left, holding a longbow by the top, Brahmi ku under arm. Reverse: Lakshmi with halo seated on lotus, holding curvaceous ribbon in outstretched right hand and lotus flower in left hand resting on knee, with legend to right srimahendrah. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class III, variety A. Raven, KG1/group 10.
The weight of 7.09 g. is very unusual and far below the usual average for this coin, which is about 8 g.
About VF, some light porosity on centre obverse, attractive lustre shows through.
