Gupta Empire, Samudragupta, c. 335-375, AV dinar, 7.90 g. (21 mm). Obverse: ‘javelin’ type; king wearing royal tunic over trousers with dagger stuck on the belt, standing, holding javelin with spearhead pointed down and sacrificing at altar, with Garuda standard in left field of which only top is visible, Brahmi samudra below his left arm, circular Brahmi legend around beginning at 7 o’clock. Reverse: goddess Lakshmi enthroned with halo, holding diadem and cornucopia, Brahmi inscription at right parakramah, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class II, variety A. Raven, SG/group 4.
VF details, well-defined features on the king and good features of the legend that begins at 7 o’clock, possible edge filing at 12 o’clock.
