Gupta Empire, Samudragupta, c. 335-375, AV dinar, 7.65 g. (22 mm). Obverse: ‘javelin’ type; king wearing low cap and royal tunic over trousers, standing with crescent above, holding javelin with spearhead pointed down and sacrificing at altar, grass blades between his feet, with Garuda standard in left field, Brahmi samudra below his left arm, circular Brahmi legend around from 1 o’clock. Reverse: goddess Lakshmi enthroned with halo, holding diadem and cornucopia, Brahmi inscription at right parakramah, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class II, variety C. Raven, SG/group 1.
VF+, well centered and clear features, some lustre shows through.
