Gupta Empire, Chandragupta I, c. 319-335, AV dinar, 7.98 g. (20 mm). Obverse: ‘archer’ type; king with halo standing looking left, wearing tunic over loin cloth and slender long sash, his hair tied up along back of the head into top crest, holding an Indian longbow in left hand and an arrow in right, Garuda standard at left, Brahmi legend appears between bow and bowstring, chandra. Reverse: Lakshmi sitting on throne, holding diadem and cornucopia, Brahmi legend at right, srivikramah, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class I, variety B2. Rare (138 examples of Chandragupta I’s archer coins recorded according to Kumar TOTGE 2024, p. 215). Raven, CG2/group 2.
