Kushanas, Kanishka III, c. 267-270, AV dinar, 7.69 g. (21 mm). Obverse: king standing facing, head left, sacrificing over altar and holding staff; trident to left, ga in Brahmi to right of altar, Brahmi letters in right field, Bactrian inscription around. Reverse: Siva standing facing, holding a garland or diadem and trident; behind, the bull Nandi standing left; to upper left, pellet above tamgha, Bactrian inscription to right, complete dotted border around.
Please note that we tentatively attribute this coin to Kanishka III, but this type of coin remains notoriously hard to identify (the website Coinindia.com notes “no coins have yet been definitively attributed to Kanishka III“). We rely on research of the Chand collection conducted at the British Museum for identification of this coin.
