Vijaynagar Kingdom, Venkata III, c. 1631-1642, AV half pagoda, 1.71 g, (10 mm), Obverse: Venkateshwara standing under arch, chakra in center of body. Reverse: Nagari legend in three lines, Sri venka/teshvara/yanamah.
AU, extremely well struck, with very sharp details and high relief. Some light edge filing of 4 mm on reverse at 2 o’clock position.
A very rare coin in choice condition, from the Vijayanagar king during whose reign the British received the land grant for what was to become the city of Madras.
