Description
Rajput of central India, Virasimhadeva, c. 11th-12th century, AV 3.66 g. (21 mm). Obverse: Mounted horseman to right, right hand holding a spear, saddle and stirrup visible, dotted border around. Reverse: Devanagari legend in two lines reading Shrimad Vira/simhadeva, dotted border around. (Deyell D-153.e, p. 299) VF-EF, showing some weakness of strike from worn dies, good lustre shows through.Of the medieval Rajput coin series, this example is of the highest rarity. The dynastic affinity of this ruler is still not determined, but typologically this coin is attributed to the Rajput dynasties that ruled in central India till the advent of Muhammad bin Sam.
