Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II, c. 380-413, AV dinar, 7.65 g. (21 mm). Obverse: ‘lion slayer’ type; king with one foot placed on lion to right and shooting an arrow directly into its mouth. Reverse: Lakshmi riding lion, holding long-stemmed lotus flower in her right hands, with Brahmi legend to right. Kumar TOTGE 2024, Class III, variety A.
VF, struck from rusty dies, details rather clear, die cracks on the edge.
An action-packed coin, with the obverse showing the king placing a foot on the lion and shooting an arrow directly into its mouth, and the reverse with Lakshmi riding a roaring lion like a horse. A very rare type.
