Gupta Empire, Samudragupta, c. 335-375 (or Kachagupta), AV dinar, 7.81 g. (20 mm). Obverse: ‘chakra’ type; king standing, holding chakradhvaja (wheel-topped standard) and sacrificing at altar, with Brahmi kacha under his left arm. Reverse: goddess Lakshmi standing facing, holding lotus and cornucopia, Brahmi inscription at right, tamgha left, dotted border around.
VF-EF, with some deposits that provide excellent contrast and legible scripts.
This type was struck from a different reverse die from the preceding lot. It shows a different tamgha symbol and the legend is curved around the dotted border.
