Description

1873 (Apr 7) small neat envelope to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with 1872-73 6d pale buff pl.11 (defective) tied by Accrington duplex, bearing 2-line “Insufficiently stamped” hs, transiting through France with “F/20” accountancy mkg in blue, “350” reis blue crayon Brazil rate mkg alongside, the rate was applied as per the 1860 Convention. Carried by the paquebot SAID replacing the GAMBIE which sank on her way back from Brazil. The only recorded mail carried by the Said to South America and the only recorded postage due of 350 reis; ex Glassco.
