Lot 30909 – 1871, “Escuelas” 50r yellow-green, first printing, a remarkable pair

1871, “Escuelas” 50r yellow-green, first printing, a remarkable pair possessing clear to ample margins, delightfully fine impression, unused without gum. The pair has probably been removed from a document or ledger page as the reverse of the stamps show ink marks that have seeped through onto the paper; slight discolouration at lower left corner, in no way detracting. The highest denomination of this issue, with only 1,000 printed, is a great rarity in unused condition and unique as a pair. Cert. Holcombe (1995) and Moorhouse (2013).
