Description

1779 ca. Folded cover from Cádiz (Spain) to Lima, via Corunna and Buenos Aires, rated on departure with boxed “3 Pta.” marking, then transported overland to Corunna where it was struck by “España” straight-line postmark in a different shade in red, following embarkation on the “El Clarendón” frigate as validated by the endorsement at left, departing from the north of Spain to call at Buenos Aires in America, following an overland route via Potosí. An exceptional and very unusual combination of postmarks applied at Corunna and Cádiz, these cities being located far apart on the northern and southern coasts of Spain. Ex Camino and Sitjà.
