Description

1829 (February 5th) Folded letter sheet from the Dublin Excise Office to London rated “1/3” single (Dublin Holyhead packet 2d + Holyhead to London 267 miles 1/- + Menai Bridge 1d), showing the distinctive rectangular “EXCISE / 5 2 / 1829 / PAID” handstamp of Dublin, a Dublin “PAID / 5 FE 5 / 1829” and London “A / PAID / 7 FE 7 / 1829” and further endorsed in manuscript P Fitzpatrick all alongside, a colourful attractive and scarce usage as the Excise mkg was only in use in 1829.
