Description

Mexico 25c orange engraved (consignment #8-1867), frameline cut into at left otherwise good to very large margins, on maritime cover to France dated February 9, 1867, tied by “FRANCO / MEXICO” cds, paying the 25c to Veracruz, with octagonal French Paquebot “Veracruz- Pq Fr 8 No 1” adjacent and charged “10” decimes on arrival, minor foxing. A very rare usage with few Maximilian mail to Europe having survived -a remarkable number included in this collection-, let alone with engraved stamps, as the Empire was crumbling in 1867.

Provenance: Backal.
