Lot 10398 – 1810 circa. Cover front from Puno (nowadays in Bolivia, then part of the Virreinato del Perú) to Madrid
1810 ca. Cover front from Puno (nowadays in Bolivia, then part of the Virreinato del Perú) to Madrid, very attractively struck on dispatch by “Puno” & “Peru” straight-line hs in red, with manuscript notation “Por Buenos Ayres” confirming the route via Corunna, and handwritten “8 r” rate for the single weight for maritime conveyance (1807 tariff). The only example documented of the “Peru” of Puno used on transatlantic mail, as well as a highly desirable and most infrequent usage from Bolivia.
