Lot 10226 – 1866, 180r black, in unique combination with “Dom Pedro” 10r on cover
1866, 180r black, bottom sheet-margin example in mixed franking with “Dom Pedro” 10r. vermilion, applied on back of 22.1.1867 entire letter from Rio de Janeiro to Montevideo, paying the 190 réis single rate up to 7.5 grams as per the 1860 Brazil-France Convention, each tied by dotted lozenge, with “Rio-de-Janeiro” French type cds on front and red boxed “P.P.” alongside, carried by the “Carmel”. Only four covers are recorded bearing the perforated “Verticais” 180r on cover, to be considered as among the rarest stamps on cover of Brazilian philately; this example is further enhanced by the unique combination with the “Dom Pedro” issue.
