Lot 10117 – 1843, 60r black, early impression, a magnificent example on letter from Diamantina
1843, 60r black, early impression, a magnificent example originating from the right of the sheet, boasting a strong colour, unusually detailed design with margins being all balanced and large on three sides, enormous at right, tied by superb strike of “DIAMANTINA” double oval hs in brown (Ayres 1290) to 12 November 1844 entire letter to Rio de Janeiro. One of five genuine covers recorded from Diamantina (this being unrecorded in the census published by Juchert-Maassen); of even greater significance is the fact that this is probably the finest “Bull’s Eye” 60r found on letter; and importantly a rare usage on the front of the cover. Cert. Sismondo (2000).
