Description
1938-82 a highly specialised collection in numerous albums, folders, packets and boxes, the main focus being a mint study, housed in 11 albums, with positional pieces for each issue, fully annotated to show the varieties etc. Many issues also include the Post Office Notice and some, importantly, have original archive artwork and proofs. Of these, we note pencil sketches for the 50th Birthday issue and the £1 SG 114 (ex James Berry archive), large and small bromides for various 1953 issues, proofs (ex Walsall archives) for the circular design issue with 7 different 10d, 6 x 1s1d and 2 x 15s, also a set in gold, with numerous proofs and bromides to be seen amongst the later issues, up to and including the 1981 Royal Wedding. Better varieties include n.h. 1962 overprinted 1/- and 5/- inverted and 1966 SG 163b inverted FU (cat £900, Ceremuga cert), there are proof sheets of the 1962 overprint (including showing the varieties), better varieties on the Official issues (some toning on these) and we note SG 242 in a (possibly unique) trial block of 6. There are numerous OHMS covers, some ‘Tin Can’ mail and a useful number of the circular issues on commercial covers (scarce and seldom seen), a series of ‘Paquebot’ covers, extensive ranges of coin covers (including 2 x 1971 with gold pated 1 and 2 pa’anga) and some Air letters. Also included are 6 large and well filled sheet albums with sheets or large multiples (again, fully annotated in most cases) from 1938-77. There are quantities of literature, reference notes and catalogues (with further Postal Notices etc in folders), 1974 Lausanne UPU presentation packs, the ‘Gold Coin’ set to 15/- in presentation box etc. One final component of the collection remains to be mentioned; an extraordinary holding of 1960s issues in complete coils, mostly of 60, in the original boxes small boxes (or in the case of the 1969 1s banana, a tin with 1000), or contained within circular cardboard tubs (most are complete and include such as SG O18 30/- on 15/- x 60). This section illustrates perfectly the unique nature of this magnificent collection which we highly recommend!
