Description
1859 (Feb 11) wrapper from Chapleton to Kingston, with GB 4d rose (faulty) tied by “A01” barred oval, reverse with legible despatch and arrival, fine and scarce. From 1st February 1859, prepayment of inland mail was required but the obliterators were not distributed outside Kingston until 1st March. In this four week period Postmasters were instructed not to cancel the stamp but to let this be done at Kingston. This cover is one of two recorded by Foster from Chapleton in this period; ex Pitts.
