Description

1838 (July 9th) Folded letter sent from Hillsboro to Newry, rated “4” and showing a clear strike of the Newry REFUSED straight line hs in black, there is no indication that the Post Office returned this letter to the sender, very fine and an extremely rare usage as there are only three recorded example of the Newry handstamp.

One of only five recorded Refused mkgs of the whole island of Ireland, exhibition showpiece.
