1855 (June 10) Complete soldier’s letter (worn and with stains) from Camp Hyderabad to Winsted, Connecticut, US. Sent unpaid to London with “2” struck for 2d unpaid soldier’s letter; in transit in Boston the “2” was deleted and replaced with manuscript “4”, further handstruck “9” and “10” marks to indicate total charge collected from recipient. One of only four British soldier’s letters known sent to the US from India.
