Description
1859-1950s, Stock of British African material in 2 counter books with a wealth of decent material. We note strong Bechuanaland with mint SG 7 (2), 10-14, 18, 26 (2),28, 38e (2) and 44 with used SG 8, 18 and the scarce F1, a little Gambia, with Gold Coast including SG 4 and 1928 set mint, 9-10 (2), 11wi and 27b used (also Togo H37f mint). British East Africa includes SG 1 mint and used (with certs), 1890 set mint with additional examples of the 8a and 1r grey, SG 33, 37 and 39 with certs, SG 64 in pair (with different surch types) and Mauritius with decent used SG 23, 2 x 1859 1d red and SG 98. A little Nyasaland with SG 29 mint (very toned), 26, 29 and 51 used, Somaliland with 1903 set to 5r plus 5r with the unlisted but recognised ‘Small R’ type (with cert), Swaziland 1956 set and 1935 SG 23a in block of 4, Tanganyika 1922 10/- sideways mint and 1927 £1 used. Some Rhodesia includes 1892 Arms £2 mint and £5 used plus other values, Falls set mint, useful ‘Double Heads’ with mint SG 148 (cert), 2/6d, 7/6d and 10/-, a few Admirals, 1931 Southern Rhodesia set, Northern Rhod Wedding etc. From cape of Good Hope we note a useful batch of triangles with 4d x 5, 1d x 2 and 6d x 3, SG 3 cleaned and regummed, then with certs, SG 7c, 8b and 20 (also SG 18 mint) and SG 24b used. Mafeking SG 14 FU, Natal SG 3 (thinned), Orange Free State SG 101c mint pair (BPA Cert), a little Zululand and SWA. From the Nigerias, Lagos with 2 x SG 16 mint (one regummed, the other ng), SG 27 mint, Niger Coast SG 74 FU, Nigeria 1914 £1 mint etc. A very useful stock. Auction
