Lot 20786 – 1921 (Feb 15) Poland 1m stationery postcard bearing “Société des Nations/Commission de contrôle/League of Nations”
1921 (Feb 15) Poland 1m stationery postcard to Turin from an Italian member of the Military Commission of Control in Vilnius to delimitate the boundaries between Poland and Lithuania and control a planned plebiscite, datelined in Vilnius and carried by diplomatic bag to the Italian Legation in Warsaw to be posted in thsi city, uprated with 3m on 40 f. tied by “Warszawa” cds, with very fine “Société des Nations/Commission de contrôle/League of Nations” double circle at left; the sender indicates his address to be through the Italian Legation in Warsaw, and writes: “I am always very satisfied with my mission here: now I have been for four months and a half”. (Also a later regular cover from Vilnius when it was Polish). Extremely rare.
