Lot 20742 – 1920 The first dispatch of correspondence of the contingent in Allenstein, unique via Bologna
1920 (March 24) Postcard from Lyck, bearing violet “38° Reggimento Fanteria/4° Battaglione” in violet, trusted to a military courier for transmission to Italy, and consigned to the base military P.O. of Bologna with “Posta Militare/E/(Ufficio Concentramento)” cds on 8 April, this being the first dispatch of correspondence of the contingent in Allenstein, being the only one with this military usage, of great rarity. As it was the case in Upper Silesia, there was not clarity on how to handle the first dispatch of mails and this provoked some delay; it was exceptionally used the via Bologna route on this occasion only.
