1901 (Nov 23) Postcard from Shanghai to Venice, bearing Japanese P.O. 4s tied by bluish black “Ra Nave Elba” cds; usual tone spots. The practice of using foreign stamps on Italian naval mail was not accepted, but it was tolerated in exceedingly few exceptional cases, and in this case it was surprisingly not taxed on receipt (we have not found any similar item in the Mizuhara collection).
